4 Essential Questions To Ask Your Property Manager

............................................................

Moving into a new apartment is exciting! Will you meet new neighbors? Will you like your new apartment, and will it feel like home? There are many questions you can have before moving in. But before you can start putting your furniture the way you like it, you'll need to get through the application process first. This means sitting down with your property manager to go through the lease, sign important documents, and pay your deposit and first month's rent. New construction townhomes in Charleston have some pretty terrific features. It's important to know what to expect when moving in.

What is Included In Rent?

The first question we recommend you ask the property manager is what is included with the rent. What kind of perks do you get? Are there any that go above and beyond traditional rentals? Your rent more than likely will include your particular unit. In your lease, you'll notice that your unit is clearly labeled on the documents. This is the space that you're allowed to use. But, with your rent, you may also have access to a laundry room, fitness center, pool, dog park, valet, and more. We recommend that you ask these questions ahead of time to understand better what perks there are to the apartment.

Do You Allow Pets?

One of the most asked questions for apartment complexes is if pets are allowed. This is something you may want to know if you already have a pet before moving in. Or if you would like to get a pet somewhere down the road, would it be allowed? Pets can be a difficult subject to bring up with your property manager. They may have a breed restriction on the type of dog you can have in your home, a weight limit, and even impose fees every month called pet rent. Some of these breeds include German shepherds, chows, pitbulls, and rottweilers. Get this out of the way before ever bringing a pet into your home. Most landlords will have a clause in your lease that says they can evict you if you bring one in or charge you extra money.

Is There a Penalty To Break The Lease?

This one is quite straightforward. If you need to move, for whatever reason, will it cost you money to break the lease? Some leases will have stipulations regarding breaking the lease. In some cases, they may forgive the penalty if you're relocating for work.

How Long Is The Lease? Option To Renew?

Last but certainly not least, you'll want to know how long the lease is for. Traditional rentals last for about a year. Do you have the option to renew? Can you lock in a longer lease for a lower rent? These are excellent subjects to bring up.
