Packing Your Furniture for Moving

............................................................

While moving might be exhilarating, there can also be a lot of effort involved. Undoubtedly, one of the most important parts of any relocation is packing your furniture. You can ensure that your items survive the trip in excellent condition if you acquire the necessary supplies and carefully wrap your pieces.

If there are old pieces you’ll rather not pack, sort them into “furniture that I can donate” and give them away to charity.

Planning and assembling your materials

Choose which furniture components to disassemble. Items that won't fit through doors or down a narrow stairway should ideally be disassembled. Also, consider disassembling precious or delicate goods because it can be more stress-free to transport them in pieces. You may want to take apart beds, wall cabinets or nightstands, and tables.

# By exposing the frame, you can disassemble the sofa by removing the cushions. The sofa should first be turned onto its back once all the cushions have been removed. The cushions and the legs should be set aside and moved separately after being unscrewed. The staples holding the covering to the underside of the sofa can be taken out using a flathead screwdriver and pliers.

# After removing the mattress and all blankets and pillows from your bed, start disassembling the bed by removing the headboard and footboard. The headboard and footboard of the bed should be removed with a screwdriver from the bed's mainframe.

# To disassemble a table, unscrew the legs. If you want to view underneath little tables, put them on a platform like a countertop or a workbench.

# Desks and dressers should have their knobs and other detachable parts removed. If your desk or dresser has knobs, turn them to the left until they fall off. You should also remove any removable components from any other objects. Remove the wheels and any protruding handles.

Wrapping your furniture

Use blankets or furniture pads to cover the furnishings. Wrap your furniture securely in padding or blankets for the best possible protection. You can either use outdated blankets you already have or rent blankets from a moving supply business. Wrap the entire diameter of the furniture from one end to the other.

# Use cardboard to secure the corners of dressers, tables, and glass furniture. Reinforce with more cardboard for large items.

# Use bubble wrap to protect fragile items. For some things, you may want to add a layer of bubble wrap if you’re concerned about damage or scratches.

# Wrap the entire furniture unit with rolls of bubble wrap, fastening it with tape.

# Tape and cardboard can be used to wrap mirrors. Cover the margins and corners extensively with cardboard and tape it shut. Fitting Styrofoam in front and at the back of the mirror protects it further.

# You’re now all set to safely load your furniture to the back of a truck and move them.
