I just bought a new computer, that has Office already installed on it. I have professional plus 2016 on my old laptop, so I need to transfer everything over from my old laptop to my new laptop, without losing any of my documents or anything. Is there any way to do that?
MS "Improved" the Office 2016 Pro Plus license (actually 2013) terms to allow it to be installed on only one computer. Moving it to the new computer is simple enough. On the new computer log in with your email account to: (MyAccount)
There you can find the computer(s) you currently have Office active on. Click on the "Deactivate" link. That free's up your one install count to be used on this computer. Just click on the "Install" button to put Office on the new computer.
I think the problem may be that my friend gave me an activation code for it since he has a business. Would the office still show up on my account since it was activated on my account? It hasn't showed up the last few times I checked, both on my new laptop and my old one.
If you already redeemed a product key, reinstalling the apps, or you have an assigned license through work or school, you can skip ahead and go to the section sign in to download and install Microsoft 365 or Office. Once you verify you have a license, anytime you need to install or reinstall Microsoft 365 you can go straight to the section below, Sign in to download Office and select the tab for steps to install on a PC or Mac. The 64-bit version is installed by default unless Microsoft 365 or Office detects you already have a 32-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office (or a stand-alone app such as Project or Visio) installed. In this case, the 32-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office will be installed instead.
